Will your wedding style be modern, vintage, or something totally unique?
Before we even decide on a theme, you need to look at who you and your fiance really are – your style. With so many options out there, it doesn’t take long to become overwhelmed or going down a path that takes you away from your personality.
Have you ever gone to a wedding where you came away saying “What were they thinking by doing that”? I’m referring to the couple who did not ‘fit’ their own wedding. The style of the wedding did not suit them at all. To see what I mean, check out this scenario.
Wedding Style Gone Wrong
Marcia and Gary are a cute, shy couple, who are not big attention seekers, quiet, kinda earthy people. But their wedding of 200 guests is being held in the swankiest hotel in town with all the bells, whistles, glitz and glam, Mom and Dad can afford.
The bride and groom aren’t comfortable with any of this but any objections are shooed away. To not go along with it, they feel, would hurt their parent’s feelings. Avoid these 5 Mistakes!
They get married and breathe a sigh of relief when it is over. They do notice that their wedding pictures aren’t of a couple truly enjoying their wedding day.
Wedding Style Just Right
Now lets look at another wedding scenario. Dominique and Steven came to me after several attempts on their own to come up with a wedding style that would work for them.
This was both their second marriage. The thought of a Destination Wedding had been at the forefront of many conversations between them. But so was the idea of something close to home.
My first question to them was: What is the most important thing you want to remember about your wedding day? With little hesitation, they both answered ‘celebration with family’.
That ruled out the Destination wedding idea as both had grandparents that would not be able to make it.
Next we tackled the type of ceremony they wanted. They chose the little church down the road from where Steven grew up as the perfect location for their gathering of family and friends.
After visiting several reception venues, they knew a hotel ballroom was not to their liking and comfort zone. After some searching we found a rustic lodge that checked off all their must-have boxes.
The wedding style they ended up having was one that included all family, cozy, comfortable, earthy but a touch of elegance. These were all elements they had wanted for their special day but needed a bit of help to discover and put in place.
My goal is to help you get the most from your plans and make you happy. Getting some guidance and support along the way will make the planning so much more fun. And that’s what it’s all about isn’t it?
